Links of Interest to Professional Crafters
Links of Interest to Professional Crafters
I am a craft show-aholic although I havent been to any since I moved to Florida. Through my friendships made on community forums like pcCrafter - I have found several gals that are the actual creators of beautiful hand made crafted items that I covet and enjoy buying or just wishing I could buy it all. These talented ladies (and some men too) often share their craft booth photos, tell of their successes and misses in what they craft and sell and it gives me and others the feelings of what goes on "inside" and "behind" the booth at a craft show.
And though I may not be a "crafter" myself - I do like researching and finding information about the business of crafting.
So I am copying and pasting all the links and info I had posted in a thread over at pcCrafter.coms messageboard to share here on my blog. (**just in case pccrafter.com should ever cease to be online with their community forums, I have begun saving a few of my threads that I have posted over the years over there)
Some links are "archived" links..as
in no particular order to any of these - Happy Linking Around
I wish all of my crafty friends, many sales ahead during this Fall and Christmas season of Craft Shows

Pricing your crafts
How to Price your Crafts
Deciding how much to charge for your crafts is an important decision. While ultimately you must decide what your products are worth, there are a few steps to follow that can help.
Difficulty Level: average Time Required: 30 minutes to several hours
Heres How: *excerpt quoted from website
From William T Lasley,
Your Guide to Arts / Crafts Business
"Decide how much you (or your employee) will be paid per hour to produce products. Multiply this hourly rate by the number of hours a week that will be spent producing crafts. Write down this figure, this is your weekly cost of labor. (If you need to make $10 per hour, working 40 hours per week the weekly cost of labor would be $400.) Calculate the total cost-of-supplies needed to make one finished product. Determine how many products one person can produce in a week. Multiply the cost of supplies-per-piece by the number of products produced in a week. (If your cost of materials per piece is $1 and you can produce 100 products a week, the figure would be $100.) Add this figure to your weekly labor costs. (In our example here that would be $400 + $100 = $500) Divide this figure by the number of products produced in a week. (So $500 labor/materials divided by 100 finished products a week would be $5.00 per piece.) If you will be wholesaling your products, multiply this number by two. (Which would give you a retail price of $10 per product.) Compare this cost to similar products on the market. If your price is more than similar products, you may need to reduce it by cutting hourly price, finding less expensive supplies or by increasing your production time. If your price is significantly less than similar products, you may want to consider raising your price. Tips:
Usually one piece will not use an entire supply unit. For instance an 8-ounce bottle of glue may make a hundred pieces. In this case, calculate how many pieces can be produced from a supply and divide by the cost of the supply. This equation does not take into account any expenses other than labor and materials. You can figure in weekly costs of any other business expenses that you may have and add it to the weekly labor and material cost. "

LibreOffice 3 4 2 Final A great open source alternative to Microsoft Office
LibreOffice 3 4 2 Final A great open source alternative to Microsoft Office
LibreOffice is an all-in-one professional office productivity and management package for your PC.
In the same vein as other open source productivity suites like OpenOffice.org, LibreOffice boasts a comprehensive set of office management tools arguably on par with Microsoft Office itself. LibreOffice offers six different office management tools to meet your project management needs: Text Document, Spreadsheet, Presentation, Drawing, Database, and Formula.
Text Document is relatively synonymous with Microsoft Word, where Spreadsheet is like Excel. Presentation mirrors Microsofts PowerPoint, and Database is similar to Access. Then you also have two additional programs in Drawing and Formula, which are an added bonus to the entire package. LibreOffice is compatible with Microsoft Offices document formats and also supports PDFs natively. It also has its own document format called Open Document.
Unfortunately, if youre unfamiliar with Microsoft Office products, this program might take a little additional time to get used to, particularly if you want to master some of its more advanced features. Regular Microsoft Office users will find LibreOffices interface quite similar, however, and should pick up on how to use its various programs without too much difficulty.
A great alternative to Microsoft Office, LibreOffice is a must-try for managing your various office projects.

KGB Archiver v2 Full Version Free Download (Compress 1GB to 10 MB)
7zip v9.29 Alpha 32bit plus 64bit full version free download here.
KGB Archiver v2 Full is free and open source software which easily compresses 1GB file to 10MB file. Data compression utility of this software is based on PAQ6 algorithm which has AES-256 powerful encryption. It works on both Windows and Linux operating system. Compression ratio of this software is very high. Due to high compression levels, time to compress a file goes high as the size of the file increases and compression ratio may vary depending on the format of the file.
When a file is compressed with KGB Archiver it saves it with own extension and at the time of decompression it automatically recognizes the file format. The only limitation of KGB archiver is, decompressed file cannot be open or extract with other compression softwares. You can also choose any compression level (high, maximum, normal, low, very weak) to compress a file but the compression time will vary according to your selected compression level.
Note: If you are compressing any file with KGB archiver and sending the comprssed file to your friends then he must have KBG archiver installed on his computer to decompress the file.
Features of KGB Archiver :
- Supports native .kgb files and .zip files
- AES-256 Encryption
- Able to create self-extracting archives.
- Multilanguage supports like Arabic, German, Greek, Japanese, Spanish many more.
- Unicode is supported in both User Interface and File Systems.
- An Explorer shell extension is available for the windows version.
- Make Password protected compressed file.
Due to high compression ratio of KGB archiver, you need to have a decent system hardware configuration

LibGDX How to solve the issue ADB didnt ACK failed to start daemon
LibGDX How to solve the issue ADB didnt ACK failed to start daemon
After the Import of the Gradle Project in the Eclipse, you can immediately debug it to see how the default project looks like.
The fastest way to see what the existing codes work is to Run / Debug the Desktop directory.
However, if you are only interested on the performance in the Android device, you could straightaway connect it to your PC, and Run / Debug the Android directory.
Now everything is intuitive until the error hits you:
"ADB didnt ACK, failed to start daemon"
What the heck is this and how to solve this issue?
Of course, search engines could get you some results. However, I am surprised to find that the most voted solution doesnt really provide a big picture of what went wrong. It takes me hours to find out that, it is the answer by vladof (in this link) that really sheds some lights on how to cope with this issue more thoroughly.
Since his answer is getting drowned, here I show it again (with minor modification) - The most complete solution for the "ADB didnt ACK" problem.
- Enter Command Prompt.
Go to platform-tools in Android SDK directory. - Type:
adb nodaemon server
Output:
cannot bind tcp:5037
- This implies that the port 5037 is occupied by something else. Type the command below to see who is the culprit:
netstat -ano | findstr 5037
Output: - Note that the process with PID 4888 is occupying port 5037.
- Open Task Manager, click on Processes tab, find the process and kill it, tfadb.exe in this case. If you dont see the PID column, you may add it from the "Views" tab. Repeat the process from 2 - 5 if observe the similar situations again.
- Retry
adb kill-server
andadb start-server
, you will notice that the daemon will start successfully. :)

Lousy Adobe Flash Updated To v18 0 0 203 Lousy Adobe AIR Updated To v18 0 0 180 CRITICAL Security Patches
Lousy Adobe Flash Updated To v18 0 0 203 Lousy Adobe AIR Updated To v18 0 0 180 CRITICAL Security Patches

Adobe just bothered to catch up and release the accompanying security bulletin:
https://helpx.adobe.com/security/products/flash-player/apsb15-16.html
If youre still using Adobe Flash and Air, you can go for the updates:
https://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/
https://get.adobe.com/air/
Because Adobe is so incredibly obtuse these days, when you visit the get Air page, all youre going to see listed is "Version 18". IOW, tough luck if you want to know the actual version number. We little peon customers are too stupid to care about such vital things, right? But Ive verified that what theyre currently offering really is Air v18.0.0.180, which is what we want. Proof:

Meanwhile, Adobe already has the beta of Flash version 18.0.0.205 in preparation for their in-band release of Flash on the second-Tuesday-of-the-month, July 14th. Keep an eye out for that one, if you care. (-_-) zzz
Hold on to your proverbial hats. This is an incredible list of security flaws patched in Flash and AIR:
Vulnerability Details
These updates improve memory address randomization of the Flash heap for the Window 7 64-bit platform (CVE-2015-3097).
These updates resolve heap buffer overflow vulnerabilities that could lead to code execution (CVE-2015-3135, CVE-2015-4432, CVE-2015-5118).
These updates resolve memory corruption vulnerabilities that could lead to code execution (CVE-2015-3117, CVE-2015-3123, CVE-2015-3130, CVE-2015-3133, CVE-2015-3134, CVE-2015-4431).
These updates resolve null pointer dereference issues (CVE-2015-3126, CVE-2015-4429).
These updates resolve a security bypass vulnerability that could lead to information disclosure (CVE-2015-3114).I marked our pal, in-the-wild exploit CVE-2015-5119 in red. Thats 36 security flaws patched in Flash and AIR. Yes, Flash (and therefore AIR) really is crap code. And no doubt, it has many more security flaws waiting to be exploited. I read an article last week claiming that Adobe Flash is now the #1 most dangerous software you can run on the Internet, surpassing awful Oracle Java plug-in. Astounding. It takes some seriously bad coding to surpass Javas horrendous security problems.
These updates resolve type confusion vulnerabilities that could lead to code execution (CVE-2015-3119, CVE-2015-3120, CVE-2015-3121, CVE-2015-3122, CVE-2015-4433).
These updates resolve use-after-free vulnerabilities that could lead to code execution (CVE-2015-3118, CVE-2015-3124, CVE-2015-5117, CVE-2015-3127, CVE-2015-3128, CVE-2015-3129, CVE-2015-3131, CVE-2015-3132, CVE-2015-3136, CVE-2015-3137, CVE-2015-4428, CVE-2015-4430, CVE-2015-5119).
These updates resolve vulnerabilities that could be exploited to bypass the same-origin-policy and lead to information disclosure (CVE-2014-0578, CVE-2015-3115, CVE-2015-3116, CVE-2015-3125, CVE-2015-5116).
If you dont need Flash/AIR or Java running over the Internet, then get rid of their Internet Plug-ins. Please.

Learn to modify exe files
Learn to modify exe files
1) Dont try to modify a prog by editing his source in a dissasembler. Why?
Cause thats for programmers and assembly experts only.
try to view it in hex youll only get tons of crap you dont understand.
First off, you need Resource Hacker(last version). Its a resource editor-
very easy to use, You can download it at h**p://www.users.on.net/johnson/resourcehacker/
2) Unzip the archive, and run ResHacker.exe. You can check out the help file too
3) You will see that the interface is simple and clean. Go to the menu FileOpen or press Ctrl+O to open a file. Browse your way to the file you would like to edit. You can edit *.exe, *.dll, *.ocx, *.scr and *.cpl files, but this tutorial is to teach you how to edit *.exe files, so open one.
4) In the left side of the screen a list of sections will appear.
The most common sections are
-String table;
-RCData;
-Dialog;
-Cursor group;
-Bitmap;
-WAV.
*Icon: You can wiew and change the icon(s) of the program by double-clicking the icon section, chossing the icon, right-clicking on it an pressing "replace resource". After that you can choose the icon you want to replace the original with.
*String table: a bunch of crap, useful sometimes, basic programming knowladge needed.
*RCData: Here the real hacking begins. Modify window titles, buttons, text, and lots more!
*Dialog:Here you can modify the messages or dialogs that appear in a program. Dont forget to press "Compile" when youre done!
*Cursor group: Change the mouse cursors used in the program just like you would change the icon.
*Bitmap: View or change images in the programs easy!
*WAV:Change the sounds in the prog. with your own.
5) In the RCData,Dialog,Menu and String table sections you can do a lot of changes. You can modify or translate the text change links, change buttons, etc.

Learn to crack any version of Winrar – An Introduction to Cracking Part 2
Learn to crack any version of Winrar – An Introduction to Cracking Part 2
Sorry for a late update folks..My final exams are here and hence I was a bit busy in studies (and playing Metal Gear Solid 2 if anybody cares :D ). As I have less time to blog, I might as well write a quick and dirty guide to crack Winrar using Ollydbg this time. Ollydbg is a debugging program which I tout as the best debugging and disassembling program available to us,the lesser mortals. It has an extremely intuitive interface (although at first run, it might be cryptic for many) and one can write off their own plugins to extend functionality. You must have a basic idea of memory address and assembly language, or you might want to read the part one of this tutorial - Learn to crack any version of Winrar An Introduction to cracking
Update -
Hi Folks..Due to sheers amount of load the initial post was taking, I had to move the post on cracking winrar from my homepage to here

Learn how to connect Yahoo Gmail and Facebook accounts – A tactical move by Yahoo
Learn how to connect Yahoo Gmail and Facebook accounts – A tactical move by Yahoo
I never imagined that this can happen , this morning, Yahoo brought me pleasant surprise of connecting my Gmail account with my Gmail one, & even my Facebook id. Wow !!! Think about one world theory :) Yahoo states that the transition will take some time.Like the hell I care..
I quickly connected my Gmail account to check if it works, voila it worked seamlessly, now you can sign in into one ID & can enjoy the benefits of Gmail & Yahoo simultaneously. Here is how you can do that.
Go to Yahoo mail & click on the respective Gmail button.
Once done, Google will prompt you if you want to grant access to Yahoo, click Allow to do that.
Once done, you will be prompted to enter username password & other fields, click on top link to sign in if you already have a Yahoo Id. Enter your Yahoo Id & click sign in..
Voila.you are done :) Now you have all the goodies of your social world at one place :)
Why Yahoo did that ?
Seeing that it has dropped down to 4th rank worldwide according to Alexa, yahoo quickly had to make a move..First Google, then Facebook & Youtube. Seems like everybody was trampling it over & getting ahead. So it was a tactical move to entice the the Google followers to have a piece of Yahoo :)

as the old adage says,
If You Cant Beat Em, Join Em ..
A tactical move by Yahoo :)

Learning to Live Without Recognition is a Skill!
Learning to Live Without Recognition is a Skill!
Saw this article from a facebook post.
There was a farmer who had a horse and a goat ..
One day, the horse became ill. So he called the veterinarian, who said:
"Well, your horse has a virus. He must take this medicine for three days.
Ill come back on the 3rd day and if hes not better, were going to have to put him down.
Nearby, the goat listened closely to their conversation.
The next day, they gave the horse the medicine and left.
The goat approached the horse and said: Be strong, my friend.
Get up or else theyre going to put you to sleep!
On the second day, they again gave the horse the medicine and left.
The goat came back and said: "Come on buddy, get up or else youre going to die!
Come on, Ill help you get up. Lets go! One, two, three..."
On the third day, they came to give the horse the medicine and the vet said:
"Unfortunately, were going to have to put him down tomorrow. Otherwise,
the virus might spread and infect the other horses".
After they left, the goat approached the horse and said: "Listen pal, its now or never!
Get up, come on! Have courage! Come on! Get up! Get up! Thats it, slowly! Great!
Come on, one, two, three... Good, good. Now faster, come on...... Fantastic! Run, run more!
Yes! Yay! Yes! You did it, youre a champion...!!!"
All of a sudden, the owner came back, saw the horse running in the field and began shouting:
Its a miracle! My horse is cured. We must have a grand party. Lets kill the goat!!!!
The Lesson:
Nobody truly knows which employee actually deserves the merit of success, or whos actually contributing the necessary support to make things happen.
Remember:
LEARNING TO LIVE WITHOUT RECOGNITION IS A
SKILL!!!!
If anyone ever tells you that your work is unprofessional, remember:
AMATEURS BUILT THE ARK [which saved all the species]
and
PROFESSIONALS BUILT THE TITANIC [all died tragically]
