In 2012 London Summer Olympics, the tennis competitions will be held during the period of July 28 to August 5. And the events are scheduled to be staged at the All England Club in Wimbledon. Then, it becomes the first grass court tournament since tennis was re-introduced (read below) to the Olympics.In this big events, there are 190 tennis players to compete in five events: Men Singles, Men Doubles, Women Singles, Women Doubles and Mixed Doubles. Among them, singles and doubles for both men and women and for the first time since 1924, mixed doubles will be officially included.
Actually, tennis was part of the Summer Olympic Games program from the 1896 Summer Olympics. And it lasted until the 1924 Summer Olympics. Tennis was dropped. Fortunately, it returned as a full medal sport at the 1988 Summer Olympics after two appearances as a demonstration sport, and has been played at every edition of the Games since then.
USA Tennis Team for 2012 Olympics
Team USA’s women’s coach Mary Joe Fernandez nominated a six-woman team of four singles and two doubles: Serena, Venus Williams, Varvara Lepchenko, Christina McHale, Liezel Huber and Lisa Raymond. Team USA’s men coach Jay Berger also has named a six-player team, four singles and two doubles: Any Roddick, Ryan Harrison, John Isner, Donald Young, Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan.
